Chandreyee Basu Thakur

Chandreyee Basu Thakur, daughter of Smt. Manjusri & Shri Bidyut Basu Thakur, had avid interest in dance since her childhood. She started taking formal lessons in dance at the tender age of four years from Guru Shri Shanti Bose, one of the most well known disciples of the Late Shri Uday Shankar, and a top ranking performer of India. She started learning Indian Classical Dance under the tutelage of Guru Smt. Thankamani Kutty of Kalmandalam, Calcutta from 1981, where she continues even now in Bharatanatyam & Mohiniattam, besides receiving training in Folk Dances as well as other forms of dancing. A senior teacher of academics at the prestigious Modern High School for Girls, Calcutta, Chandreyee has performed and conducted several workshops in various parts of India and abroad. Her performances include:


1) The celebration of 50 years of Indian Independence, in 1997, in different parts of the United Kingdom, as a part of the cultural delegation of the Government of India.


2) Performances in Melbourne, Australia, and Ohio and Queens-LongIsland, NY in the United States of America.


3) Performances in various television channels of India, such as, Doordarshan, Tara T.V.(Mumbai and Calcutta), CCCN, ETV, and Alpha Bangla.


4) She has also performed before H.R.H. Prince Edward of Great Britain during His maiden visit to Calcutta for the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Ceremony.


5) The Uday Shankar Dance Festival, Calcutta, and the Pondicherry Festival of Shri Aurobindo Ashram in India.


6) Performed during the Tourism Week at the Indian Museum, Calcutta, organized by the Department of Tourism of the Government of India.


7) Performed in a documentary film, called “……and miles to go before I sleep” made on the life of the legendary Kathakali exponent, Guru Govindan Kutty.


8) Played the protagonists as also choreographed and directed several dance dramas of Tagore, namely, Chandalika, Shyama, Chitrangada, Sapmochan & Mayar Khela.


9) She is a distinguished and regular performer in different parts of the Indian subcontinent.
