Mita
Huq is one of the top vocalists of Bengali music in Bangladesh.
Huq’s family has a long association with music &
culture from which she draws her inspiration. Mita counts
among her teachers her uncle Waheedul Huque, Dr. Sandjida
Khatun, Mohammad Ruhullah and Mohammad Shafiullah. Huq
has also been taught classical music by Ustad Mohammad
Hossain Khan and enjoys singing Rabindra Sangeet.
In 1974 she performed at the International Children’s
Festival in Berlin at the age of twelve. Huq is one of
the few special grade artists on both Bangladesh TV and
radio. She has held concerts across cities in both Europe
and North America, including London, Manchester, Leeds,
New York and has earned accolades there. Mita has successfully
established herself as one of the most popular singers
in both Bangladesh and neighbouring West Bengal. Reputable
Indian companies such as HMV, Sagarika, Bhabhna and Cbs
Calcutta have recorded and produced Huq’s music.
Mita Huq is a member of the renowned group ‘Anandadhani’
and her own group in Dhaka, which is called ‘Surotirtha’.
She is also a former General-Secretary of the Bangladesh
Rabindra Sangeet Sammelan Parishad.
